Our CPL class is a two-part course consisting of one 8-hour classroom session and one 2-1/2 hour range session. Upon completion of this class you will obtain a Certificate of Completion that will allow you to apply for a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) in the state of Michigan.
This class uses a combination of classroom instruction and testing combined with hands-on range time to provide you with the training necessary to properly handle and carry a firearm for personal protection. This class has been approved by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and is taught by an NRA Certified instructor with assistance from a certified law enforcement officer.
The cost of attending this class is $160.00 that includes both the classroom session and range session. This fee also includes photos for your CPL license which are taken at the classroom session. Upon registering for this class we require a $50.00 Non-Refundable Deposit to hold your spot. 12 students are required to conduct a class. If we do not have 12 students for a class, the class will be rescheduled. If you have a conflict on a reschedule date, you will be refunded your $50.00 deposit.
You are also required to furnish 100 rounds of ammunition for the range session. The ammunition is an extra cost not included in the price of the class. You are welcome to bring your own target ammunition or we can provide you with target ammunition at an extra cost (usually between $15.00-$20.00 depending on the caliber of the gun). Students must be 21 years of age or older and be able to attend both the Classroom Session and Range Session to obtain a Certificate of Completion.
Classroom sessions are typically held once a month and are usually on the third or fourth Sunday of the month. Class sessions require a minimum of 12 students, therefore Sunday session dates vary based on demand.
Sunday classroom sessions are held at our store in Livonia, MI, and are from 9am-4pm. Some of the topics covered at the classroom session include basic handgun safety, avoiding and controlling dangerous situations, types of ammunition along with laws pertaining to carrying a handgun. Lunch will be provided at the Sunday classroom session.
Please keep in mind this is a CPL class, not a basic shooting class. You are expected to have a basic level of skill in shooting before taking this class. Novice students are welcome, but will require some advance in-store tutoring. You must be willing to show that you are prepared to work a bit extra to be ready for the class (there is no extra fee for any in-store tutoring).
Range sessions are held on either Wednesday or Thursday, following the Sunday classroom session. Range sessions are held at the Firing Line Range in Westland, MI., and are from 6:30pm-9:00pm. The Range Session allows you the chance to become familiar with your handgun and utilize proper loading and handling techniques while demonstrating your ability to shoot.
If you already own a handgun you should bring your gun and accessories such as speedloaders or extra magazines to the range. Holsters are not permitted at the range. If you do not currently own a handgun, we will provide one for the range portion of this class at no extra cost.
If you do not currently own a handgun, we recommend that you wait until after taking our class to choose your handgun, as you will be better informed at that time.
